Prospective validation study of the Los Angeles Prehospital Stroke Screen (LAPSS) performed, demonstrating that LAPSS enables paramedics to accurately identify stroke patients in the field.
October 1998 FAST-MAG Pilot Trial grant proposal submitted to NIH-NINDS.
May 2000 –
April 2002
Pilot Trial performed by 3 Los Angeles Fire Department ambulances, enrolling 20 patients and demonstrating feasibility of prehospital administration of magnesium sulfate in focal stroke.
October 2001 FAST-MAG Phase 3 Trial grant proposal submitted to NIH-NINDS.
January 2002 Reverse site visit for the FAST-MAG Trial grant in Chicago.
October 2002 FAST-MAG Phase 3 Trial proposal considered by NIH-NINDS Special Emphasis Panel and given high priority score, making funding likely.
February 2003 NIH-NINDS approves funding of FAST-MAG Phase 3 Trial.
September 2003 Notice of Grant award received
October 2003 First bimonthly meeting of the FAST-MAG Trial Steering Committee. Over 20 members attend, representing LA Fire Chiefs, EMS Medical Directors, EMS Provider Agencies, Paramedics, EMS Agency Prehospital Care and Education Coordinators, LA Hospitals Association, ED Nursing, Site Neurology Physicians, and Site ED Physicians.
January 2004 FAST-MAG Investigators Meeting #1 held at Beverly Hills Hotel. Over 20 site investigators attend and help plan study launch.
January 2005 First FAST-MAG Patient Enrolled
February 2005 FAST-MAG Investigators Meeting #2 held at McCormick & Schmick's Restaurant in Pasadena, CA
February 2006 FAST-MAG Investigators Meeting #3 held at McCormick & Schmick's Restaurant in Los Angeles, CA.
March 2006 Patient #100 Enrolled
January 2007 Patient #250 Enrolled
February 2007 FAST-MAG Investigators Meeting #4 held at McCormick & Schmick's Restaurant in El Segundo, CA
April 2007 FAST-MAG reaches 25% enrollment goal.
